ADOPT A POTHOLE   (Street Repair)

When neighbors cooperate together, they can live on a clean and beautiful street.  Just take a look at the 100 block of Ensenda to see what can happen when two or more neighbors agree to contribute to street repairs together.  You'll be happy to know that homeowners have recently arranged for major street repairs on Estero and also on Playa.

The cost to pave one complete section of street for an "average" lot size is approximately $800.  Our Administrator, Dr. Martha Alvarez, has reduced the labor cost involved with street repair substantially, but we do not have control over the cost of the concrete.  We do minimize the cost of concrete by using the "free" rocks from the beach (Thank you Mother Earth) - which also retains the picturesque look and feel of San Antonio del Mar.

Still, $800 is a significant investment, especially in these tough economic times.  However, we can continue to make small improvements which, over time, will have a wide-reaching and positive result.

The cost for materials and labor for 1 meter of street repair is only around $20.00 (USD).  This includes the material and the labor to dig up the earth, clean and place the rocks, and to mix and pour the concrete.  So, if you do not have the money to fix all of the street in front of your house right now, you can still have the worst pothole repaired.  If your neighbor cooperates, maybe you can fix two or even three potholes.  This money will not be wasted when you do decide to fix the rest of your street.
STREET REPAIR BADLY NEEDED NOW ON MAJOR THOROUGHFARES

YES WE CAN - poco a poco!

After the recent rains, street repairs are happening all over Tijuana and Rosarito.  San Antonio is no different.  We have some huge potholes that are turning into craters on the major "through" streets of  Cantil and Farrallon.  This is a problem that affects all of us.  The streets look terrible, our cars suffer, and it will only get worse unless we, as a community, decide to do what we can to fix our streets.

Although there is no surplus money in the Homeowner's fund for street repair, we can start fixing the worst potholes with just a little extra help from the community.  In some cases, the worst areas are in front of vacant lots, or unoccupied houses.  The potholes in these areas will never be fixed unless we decide to take action.

For $500 we can fix 25 potholes (1 square meter each).
For approximately $200 - $250 we can fix the worst 10 potholes in our two major thoroughfares (on Cantil and Farralon).
If the people who live in those areas will also contribute something at the same time, we may be able to fix whole sections of those streets.  Other streets have problem areas as well.  The remaining monies could be used to fix the worst areas in our other streets.

ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE - ADOPT A POTHOLE!

The good news is that there continue to be homeowners in the community who are paying to fix the streets that are on the boundaries of their property.  You will see these repairs being made on an ongoing basis.  But we do need to address the "un-owned or unclaimed" potholes that continue to get worse.

Please give what you can now to a special STREET REPAIR FUND

No contribution is too small.  We'll accept bags of cement in addition to cash, if that is your preferred method of cooperation.

Just think, if 40 people will give only $10 each - we'll be on our way to some significant improvements in our streets before summer arrives!

Please contact Martha Alvarez (Administrator) or Al Rosen (Committee President) to make your contribution to the STREET REPAIR FUND or to discuss your plan of action regarding the streets in your area.
